Indication : Why is this medication prescribed?

Vit A deficiency during infancy, pregnancy, lactation, heptatobillary disease, steatorrhea. Skin diseases like acne vulgaria, acne venenata, posiriasis, ichthyosis.

Contraindication: What are the special precautions to be followed?

Under following conditions, use of this medication is inadvisable. Its use should be withhold as it would cause harm to the patient
Acute eczema, rosacea, cuts, abrasions. Acute dermatitis. Pregnancy and lactation.

Other Precaution to be observed while taking this medication

Avoid exposure to sunlight, UV lamps. Avoid concomitant therapy with conventional acne, medical or cosmetic products. Regular use of liquid paraffin, long term oral neomycin use induces steatorrhea and interferes with Vit A absorption.

What are possible side effects of this medication ?

Feeling of warmth, stinging, excessive redness, oedema and crusting. Corneal opacities, dry eyes, visual disturbances, skeletal hyperostosis and musculoskeletal symptoms. Hair thinning, photosensitivity, changes in skin pigmentation, paronychia. GI disturbances, hepatitis.
