Indication : Why is this medication prescribed?

Topical vasoconstrictor: Temporary relief of nasal congestion, opens obstructed eustachian ostia in ear inflammation. Temporary relief of conjuctival congestion, itching and minor irritation in the eye, control hyperemia in patients with superficial corneal vascularity.

Contraindication: What are the special precautions to be followed?

Under following conditions, use of this medication is inadvisable. Its use should be withhold as it would cause harm to the patient
Hypersensitivity, infants below 2 years of age, use of 1% solution in children below the age of 6 years.

Other Precaution to be observed while taking this medication

Glaucoma, serious eye diseases, hyperthyroidism, hypertension, diabetes mellitus and ischaemic heart disease.

What are possible side effects of this medication ?

Secondary to overuse: Headache, hypertension, weakness, sweating, cardiac arrhythimia, tremors, drowsiness and insomnia.
