Sparfloxacin
Indication : Why is this medication prescribed?
Gram positive bacteria (especially Strep. pneumoniae, Staphylococcus, Enterococcus), Bacteroides fragilis, other anaerobes and mycobacteria. Pneumonia, exacerbations of chronic bronchitis. Sinusitis and other ENT infections. Tuberculosis. MAC infection in AIDS patients. Leprosy.
Contraindication: What are the special precautions to be followed?
Under following conditions, use of this medication is inadvisable. Its use should be withhold as it would cause harm to the patient
Hypersensitivity. Pregnancy, lactation and children below the age of 18 years.Other Precaution to be observed while taking this medication
Severe renal dysfunction, epilepsy, G6PD deficiency, myasthenia gravis, patients with QT prolongation, unc0orrected electrolyte disturbances, bradycardia.
What are possible side effects of this medication ?
Diarrhoea, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, jaundice, renal failure. Anaphylactoid reaction, headache, dizziness, convulsions, tremors, myalgia, rhabdomyolysis, thrombocytopenia and eosinophilia.
