Indication : Why is this medication prescribed?
Malaria: a) Uncomplicated resistant faciparum malaria. b) Complicated and severe malaria including cerebral malaria. Nocturnal muscle cramps. Varicose.
Contraindication: What are the special precautions to be followed?
Under following conditions, use of this medication is inadvisable. Its use should be withhold as it would cause harm to the patient
Hypersensitivity, haemolytic anaemia, quinine-resistant falciparum infection. Pregnancy, lactation. Tinnitus or optic neuritis. Myasthenia gravis. Prolonged QT interval.Other Precaution to be observed while taking this medication
Arterial fibrillation. Renal or hepatic impairment. CV diseases. G6PD deficiency. Diabetes mellitus.
What are possible side effects of this medication ?
Tinnitus. Impaired hearing, headache, blurred vision, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, vertigo. Urticaria, pruritus, fever, angioedema, asthma, dyspnoea, haemoglobinuria, thrombocytopenic purpura, hypolgycaemia, renal failure, hypoprothrombinaemia, agranulocytosis.
