Indication : Why is this medication prescribed?
Hypertension. Angina pectoris. Cardiac arrhythmias. Migraine. Anxiety. Portal hypertension. Essential tremor. Phaeochromocytoma. Thyrotoxicosis.
Contraindication: What are the special precautions to be followed?
Under following conditions, use of this medication is inadvisable. Its use should be withhold as it would cause harm to the patient
COPD. Partial or complete heart block. CHF. Acute MI. Cardiogenic shock. Digitalis and verapamil therapy. Raynauds disease, hypoglycaemia, severe haemorrhage, metabolic acidosis, severe peripheral arterial disease.Other Precaution to be observed while taking this medication
Impaired renal and hepatic function. Cardiac failure. Myocardial insufficiency. Elderly. May mask symptoms of hyperthyroidism and hypoglycaemia. May unmask myasthenia gravis.
What are possible side effects of this medication ?
Tiredness, lack of drive, GI upsets, nightmares, forgetfulness, rarely hallucinations, muscle fatigue. Cold extremities, insomnia, dizziness. Anorexia, impotence. Thrombocytopenic purpura, agranulocytosis, nonthrombocytopenic purpura, thrombocytopenia. Depression, confusion, cognitive dysfunction.
