Indication : Why is this medication prescribed?
Stage III colon cancer.
Contraindication: What are the special precautions to be followed?
Under following conditions, use of this medication is inadvisable. Its use should be withhold as it would cause harm to the patient
Hypersensitivity. Myelosuppression prior to starting therapy. Peripheral sensory neuropathy. Severely impaired renal function. Severe infections. Pregnancy, lactation and children.Other Precaution to be observed while taking this medication
Oxaliplatin should be administrated only by or under the supervision of an experienced clinical oncologist. Renal or pulmonary toxicity. Avoid using aluminum-containing needles or IV admin sets that may come into contact with oxaliplatin as aluminum has been reported to cause degradation of platinum compounds.
What are possible side effects of this medication ?
Fatigue, fever, pain, headache, insomnia, nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, abdominal pain, constipation, anorexia, stomatitis, anemia, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, back pain, dyspnoea, peripheral oedema, thromboembolism, dizziness, rash, alopecia, hand-foot syndrome, arthralgia, rhinitis. Anaphylaxis, pulmonary fibrosis.
