Contraindication: What are the special precautions to be followed?

Under following conditions, use of this medication is inadvisable. Its use should be withhold as it would cause harm to the patient
Elderly, cardiovascular disorders (including hypertension. Untreated hyperthyroidism, uncorrected adrenal failure, recent MI.

Other Precaution to be observed while taking this medication

Panhypopituitarism or predisposition to adrenal insufficiency (initiate corticosteroid therapy before starting levothyroxine). Angina, heart failure, DM, diabetes insipidus, elderly, long standing hypothyroidism, adrenal insufficiency, myoedema. Do not use for treatment of obesity or for weight loss. Pregnancy and lactation.

What are possible side effects of this medication ?

Myocardial insufficiency or myocardial infarction. Nervousness, excitability, tremor, muscle weakness, cramps, sweating, flushing, heat intolerance, headache, insomnia, tachycardia, palpitations, angina pectoris, excessive weight loss, menstural irregularities, diarrhoea, vomiting. Convulsions, cardiac arrhythmia, heart failure, coma.
