Indication : Why is this medication prescribed?
Induction of anaesthesia.
Contraindication: What are the special precautions to be followed?
Under following conditions, use of this medication is inadvisable. Its use should be withhold as it would cause harm to the patient
Increased intracranical or intraocular pressure. Psychiatric disorders. Cardiovascular disease such as uncontrolled hypertension, unstable angina or recet myocardial infarction, right or left heart failure, aneurysms.Other Precaution to be observed while taking this medication
Increased CSF and intraocular pressure. Chronic alcoholic and alcohol-intoxicated patients. Monitor cardiac function in patients with HTN or cardiac decompensation. Pregnancy and lactation.
What are possible side effects of this medication ?
Hypotension, rarely increased BP, bradycardia, arrhythmia, respiratory depression, illusions, vivid dreams, hallucinations, diplopia, nystagumus, clonic and tonic movements, anorexia, nausea, vomiting.
