Indication : Why is this medication prescribed?
Treatment of corticosteroid responsive inflammation of the palpebral and bulbar conjunctiva, cornea and anterior segment of the eye.
Contraindication: What are the special precautions to be followed?
Under following conditions, use of this medication is inadvisable. Its use should be withhold as it would cause harm to the patient
Viral diseases of the cornea and conjunctiva, including epithelial herps simplex keratitis, vaccinia, varicella and also in mycobacterial infection of ocular structures. Pregnancy, lactation and below the age of two years.Other Precaution to be observed while taking this medication
Glaucoma (check intraocular pressure periodically), history of herpes simplex fungal or bacterial infections. Not to be used in mustard gas keratitis and Sjogrens keratoconjunctivitis. May cause corneal and scleral thinning which may lead to perforation in serious cases. Use of steroids after cataract surgery may prolong healing time and increase bleb formation.
What are possible side effects of this medication ?
Elevation of intraocular pressure with possibility of glaucoma and infrequent optic nerve damage, posterior subcapsular cataract formation and delayed wound healing.
