Indication : Why is this medication prescribed?
Anti inflammatory and anti allergic, acute exacerbation of multiple sclerosis, autoimmune disorders, unresponsive shock, to reduce brain oedema caused by infections or brain tumour
Contraindication: What are the special precautions to be followed?
Under following conditions, use of this medication is inadvisable. Its use should be withhold as it would cause harm to the patient
Renal failure, diabetes mellitus, psychosis, osteoporosis. CHF, tuberculosis and other systemic infections. Contraindicated during pregnancy.Other Precaution to be observed while taking this medication
Patients with hypothyroidism, cirrhosis, hypertension, CHF, ulcerative colitis, thromboembolic disorders, osteoporosis, glaucoma, cataracts or TB of the ye, diabetes, peptic ulcer, Monitor blood glucose levels in diabetics and coagulation indices in patients on warfarin. Elderly, children and adolescent, pregnancy and lactation.
What are possible side effects of this medication ?
Cushings habitus (rounded face, narrow mouth). Fragile skin, easy bruising, telengiectasis, hirsutism. Cutaneous atrophy occurs with topical use. Hyperglycaemia, glycosuria, muscular weakness. Delayed healing of wounds and surgical incisions.
