Indication : Why is this medication prescribed?

Menopausal vasomotor symptoms and prevention of postmenopausal osteoporosis.

Contraindication: What are the special precautions to be followed?

Under following conditions, use of this medication is inadvisable. Its use should be withhold as it would cause harm to the patient
Hormone-dependent tumours. Cardiovascular or cerebrovascular disease. Uninvestigated vaginal bleeding, severe liver disease. Pregnancy and lactation. Breast cancer, untreated endometrial hyperplasia, porphyria. Premenopausal women.

Other Precaution to be observed while taking this medication

Renal and hepatic dysfunction. Epilepsy. Diabetes mellitus. Hypercholesterolemia. Thromboembolic disorder. Hypertension, cholelithiasis, SLE. Endometriosis and history of endometrial hyperplasia.

What are possible side effects of this medication ?

Weight gain, dizziness, seborrheic dermaitis, pre tibialedema, facial hair growth, vaginal bleeding. Headache, migraine, visual disturbances, GI symptoms, altered liver function, arthralgia or myalgia, vaginal bleeding. Breast or endometrial cancer and stroke.
