Indication : Why is this medication prescribed?

Bleeding oesophageal varices. Bleeding from gastric/duodenal ulcers and haemorrhagic gastritis. Intestinal and pancreatic fistulae. Hypersecretory endocrine tumours of the intestinal tract. To reduce complications after pancreatic surgery. Adjuvant value in diabetic ketoacidosis. Use in acromegaly is limited.

Contraindication: What are the special precautions to be followed?

Under following conditions, use of this medication is inadvisable. Its use should be withhold as it would cause harm to the patient
Hypersensitivity.

Other Precaution to be observed while taking this medication

Blood glucose levels must be monitored, particularly in diabetics. In patients with fistula taper the dose after closure of the fistulae.

What are possible side effects of this medication ?

Abdominal discomfort, flushing, nausea and bradycardia, stetorrhea, dyspepsia, hypochlorhydria, cholelithiasis, mild watery diarrhoea..
