Indication : Why is this medication prescribed?

Pagets disease of bone. Treatment and prophylaxis of postmenopausal or corticosteroid-induced osteoporosis.

Contraindication: What are the special precautions to be followed?

Under following conditions, use of this medication is inadvisable. Its use should be withhold as it would cause harm to the patient
Acute upper GI inflammation. Hypocalcaemia. Pregnancy.

Other Precaution to be observed while taking this medication

Calcium and vitamin D supplements should be taken alongwith the risedronic acid or risedronate sodium. Correct hypocalcaemia prior to therapy. Renal impairment.

What are possible side effects of this medication ?

Electrolyte disturbances, GI disturbances, musculoskeletal pain, headache, hypersensitivity reactions, blood disorders. Joint and/or muscle pain.
