Indication : Why is this medication prescribed?

Myasthenia gravis. Paralytic ileus and postoperative urinary retention. Reversal of nondepolarising neuromuscular blockade. Glaucoma.

Contraindication: What are the special precautions to be followed?

Under following conditions, use of this medication is inadvisable. Its use should be withhold as it would cause harm to the patient
Mechanical GI or urinary tract obstruction, peritonitis.

Other Precaution to be observed while taking this medication

Cholinergic weakness. Bronchial asthma, cardiac disease, epilepsy. Parkinsonism. Vagotonia. Hypotention, hyperthyroidism, renal impairment.

What are possible side effects of this medication ?

Salivation, sweating, copious tracheobronchial secretions, miosis, blurring of vision, nausea, breathlessness, colic, involuntary defecation and urination.
