Indication : Why is this medication prescribed?

Alopecia androgenetia (male pattern baldness) alopecia areata. Severe HTN unresponsive to standard therapy.

Contraindication: What are the special precautions to be followed?

Under following conditions, use of this medication is inadvisable. Its use should be withhold as it would cause harm to the patient
Hypersensitivity. Pregnancy, lactation and children below the age of eighteen and persons above the age of sixty five years. Pheochromocytoma, acute MI, dissecting aortic aneurysm.

Other Precaution to be observed while taking this medication

Apply only on scalp. Avoid eyes, other mucous membranes and broken skin. Significant renal dysfunction, coronary artery disease, recent MI, pulmonary hypertension, angina pectoris. Pregnancy.

What are possible side effects of this medication ?

Contact dermatitis. Reflex tachycardia, fluid retention (accompanied by weight gain, oedema and sometimes deterioration of existing heart failure and changes in the ECG), hypertrichosis. Headache, nausea, gynaecomastia and breast tenderness, polymenorrhoea, skin rash, thrombocytopenia. Pruritus, local burning, changes in hair colour of texture. Ischaemic heart disease, pericardial effusion, pulmonary hypertension.
