Indication : Why is this medication prescribed?

All grades of hypertension. Specially useful in pheochromocytoma and clonidine withdrawal hypertension.

Contraindication: What are the special precautions to be followed?

Under following conditions, use of this medication is inadvisable. Its use should be withhold as it would cause harm to the patient
Children, allergic disorders with predisposition to bronchospasm, right ventricular failure, secondary to pulmonary hypertension. A.V. block greater than Ist degree, sinus bradycardia shock, CHF, pregnancy, lactation, anaesthesia with agents producing myocardial depression. Sick sinus syndrome, prinzmetrals angina, severe peripheral arterial disease.

Other Precaution to be observed while taking this medication

Abrupt withdrawal, diabetes, cardiac failure, anaesthesia, hyperthyroidism,postural hypotension, eye and skin reaction, liver dysfunction.

What are possible side effects of this medication ?

Failure of ejaculation in males, headache, angina, jaundice, dreams, nightmares. Orthostatic hypotension, dizziness, fatigue, vertigo, paraesthesia, headache, nasal stuffiness, dysponea, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, sexual dysfunction, dyspepsia, nausea, vomiting, scalp tingling, rash, increased transaminases, nightmares, worsening of intermittent claudication. Hepatic injury.
