Ketorolac Tromethamine

Indication : Why is this medication prescribed?

Short term management of moderate to severe postoperative pain. Ocular itching associated with seasonal allergic conjunctivitis. Prevention and relief of postoperative eye. Prevention and relief of postoperative cystoid macular oedema associated with cataract extraction. Active treatment of chronic aphakic or pseudophakic cystoid macular oedema. Reduction of ocular pain and phtophobia in patients undergoing incisional refractive surgery.

Contraindication: What are the special precautions to be followed?

Under following conditions, use of this medication is inadvisable. Its use should be withhold as it would cause harm to the patient
Hypersensitivity to aspirin or other NSAIDs, asthma. Hypovolaemia or dehydration. Do not give post operatively to patients with high risk of haemorrhage. History of oeotuc yklcer or coagulation disorders. Nasal polyps, angioedema, bronchospasm. Labour. Moderate to severe renal impairment. GI bleeding cerebrovascular bleeding. As prophylactic analgesic before surgery. Pregnancy and lactation.

Other Precaution to be observed while taking this medication

Hepatic dysfunction, heart failure, predisposition to reduced blood vol or renal blood flow. Mild renal impairment, monitor renal function closely.

What are possible side effects of this medication ?

GI ulcer, bleeding and perforation, drowsiness, rash, bronchospasm, hypotension, psychosis,dry mouth, fever, bradycardia, chest pain, dizziness, headache, sweating. Transient stinging and local irritation (ophthalmic).
