Indication : Why is this medication prescribed?

Chronic hepatitis B and C infection. AIDS related Kaposis sarcoma. Condyloma acuminata caused by papilloma virus. H Simplex, H zoster and CMV infections in immuno compromised patients. Rhinoviral cold. Myelogenous leukaemia and multiple myeloma. Renal cell carcinoma. Hairy cell leukaemia. Follicular lymphoma. Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. Melanoma.

Contraindication: What are the special precautions to be followed?

Under following conditions, use of this medication is inadvisable. Its use should be withhold as it would cause harm to the patient
Hypersensitivity. Auto immune hepatitis.

Other Precaution to be observed while taking this medication

History of depression. Seizure disorders. Pre existing or any history of cardiac disease. Myelo suppression or concurrent use of myelo suppressive drugs. Hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, DM. Pregnancy and lactation.

What are possible side effects of this medication ?

Depression, suicidal behavior, irritability, insomnia, anxiety. Flu like symptoms. Headache, dizziness, paraesthesia, confusion, impaired concentration, alteration in taste or smell. GI disturbances. Dryness of oropharynx, epistaxis, rhinitis, sinusitis, arrhythmia. Alopecia, rash, dry skin or pruritus. Conjunctivitis, menstural irregularity, visual disturbances. Coughing, dsypnoea. Myalgia, joint or bone pain, arthritis or polyarthirits. Bone marrow depression. Marked increase in TG levels, GI haemorrhage, severe infections, pulmonary infiltrate or pulmonary function impairment.
