Indication : Why is this medication prescribed?

Inhalation anaesthesia.

Contraindication: What are the special precautions to be followed?

Under following conditions, use of this medication is inadvisable. Its use should be withhold as it would cause harm to the patient
Obstetrics, malignant hyperthermia, porphyria.

Other Precaution to be observed while taking this medication

Phaeochromocytoma, poor cardiac/liver function, early pregnancy. Premedication with atropine is recommended to decrease vagal tone and prevent bradycardia and severe hypotension. May trigger malignant hyperthermia and increased intracranial pressure. Increased risk of hyperkalaemia in paediatrics with underlying neuromuscular disorders. May reduce hepatic, renal and splenic blood flow.

What are possible side effects of this medication ?

Bradycardia, hypotension, cardiac arrhythmias, resp depression, shivering during recovery (occasional). Fulminant hepatic failure, malignant hyperpyrexia and pulmonary oedema.
