Indication : Why is this medication prescribed?

HRT. Female hypogonadism. As part of combined oral contraceptive.

Contraindication: What are the special precautions to be followed?

Under following conditions, use of this medication is inadvisable. Its use should be withhold as it would cause harm to the patient
Uterine, liver and mammary carcinoma, thromboembolic disorders. Pregnancy, lactation, untreated endometriosis, jaundice, undiagnosed vag bleeding.

Other Precaution to be observed while taking this medication

Asthma, epilepsy, migraine, DM, cardiac or renal dysfunction, hepatic disease, familial defects of lipoprotein metabolism. Increased risk of endometrial cancer in unopposed oestrogen therapy. Increased risk of gall bladder disease in women on postmenopausal oestrogens. Large doses may increase CV risk, BP, risk of thrombophlebitis and pulmonary embolism.

What are possible side effects of this medication ?

Oedema, hypertension, dizziness, headache, thromboembolism, cholestatic jaundice, nausea, vomiting, disturbance of menstrual cycle, fluid retention, discomfort in breast, weight gain/loss, increased appetite, increased tendency for vag candidiasis, mental depression, alteration in libido, rashes, alopoecia, hirsutism, gynaecomastia and impotence. Endometrial cancer (prolonged use).
