Indication : Why is this medication prescribed?

Palliative treatment of advanced prostatic cancer. Moderate to severe vasomotor symptoms associated with menopause. Female hypoestrogensim (due to hypogonadism). Osteoporosis prophylaxis in postmenopausal women.

Contraindication: What are the special precautions to be followed?

Under following conditions, use of this medication is inadvisable. Its use should be withhold as it would cause harm to the patient
Hypersensitivity. Undiagnosed vag bleeding, thrombophloebitis or thromboembolic disorders, breast carcinoma except in selected patients being treated for metastatic disease, oestrogen-dependent tumor, porphyria, pregnancy.

Other Precaution to be observed while taking this medication

Conditions exacerbated by fluid retention, hypercalcaemia, cerebrovascular disorders, coronary artery disease, gall bladder disease, lipid effects, familial defects of lipoprotein metabolism. May increase BP, risk of venous thromboembolism, breast cancer, benign hepatic adenoma, endometrial cancer and size of pre existing uterine leiomyomata. Dosage should be reduced in hepatic impairment. Lactation, Child

What are possible side effects of this medication ?

GI disturbances, genitourinary changes, haematologic disorder, CV and CNS effects, endocrine and metabolic disorders, cholestatic jaundice, local skin reactions, chorea, contact lens intolerance, sleeping of corneal curvature, pulmonary thromboembolism, carbohydrate intolerance.
