Chlorpheniramine Maleate

Indication : Why is this medication prescribed?

Allergic conditions. Adjunct in the emergency treatment of anaphylactic shock.

Contraindication: What are the special precautions to be followed?

Under following conditions, use of this medication is inadvisable. Its use should be withhold as it would cause harm to the patient
Hypersensitivity, neonates.

Other Precaution to be observed while taking this medication

Elderly, pylori duodenal obstruction, angle-closure glaucoma, epilepsy, renal and hepatic impairment. May affect performance of skilled tasks. BPH, bladder neck obstruction, hypertension. Pregnancy and lactation.

What are possible side effects of this medication ?

CNS depression, sedation, drowsiness, lassitude, dizziness. GI upsets, anorexia, or increased appetite, epigastric pain, blurring of vision, dysuria, dryness of mouth, tightness in chest, hypotension, muscular weakness, tinnitus, euphoria, headache, paradoxical CNS stimulation. CV collapse and respiratory failure.
