Caspofungin Acetate

Indication : Why is this medication prescribed?

Empirical therapy of presumed fungal infections in febrile, neutropenic adult patients. Invasive aspergillosis in adult patients whose disease is refractory to, or who are intolerant of, other antifungal agents.? Treatment of candidemia and some specific Candida infections (intra-abdominal abscesses, peritonitis, pleural cavity infections and oesophagitis) and invasive candidiasis in adult patients.

Contraindication: What are the special precautions to be followed?

Under following conditions, use of this medication is inadvisable. Its use should be withhold as it would cause harm to the patient
Hypersensitivity. Pregnancy and Lactation

Other Precaution to be observed while taking this medication

Hepatic and renal impairment.

What are possible side effects of this medication ?

Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhoea. Headache. Fever Phlebitis or thrombophlebitis. Complications at the intravenous cannulation site, unspecified pain, flu like syndrome, myalgia, chills and paresthesia. Dyspnea. Increased plasma creatinine. Anemia. Hypokalemia. Increased liver enzymes. Rash, facial edema, pruritus. Tachycardia.
